Flanders & Swann

Flanders & Swann
Michael Flanders and Donald Swann were a British comedy duo known for their witty and humorous songs. The duo first met in 1948 while studying at Oxford University and began collaborating on music together. In 1956, they officially formed the duo Flanders & Swann and began performing their original songs in theaters and on television.

Flanders & Swann's music was characterized by clever wordplay, satire, and whimsical humor. Their most famous songs include "The Hippopotamus Song," "The Gnu Song," and "The Gasman Cometh." Their music often featured Swann on piano and Flanders providing vocals, with both men contributing to the songwriting.

Throughout their career, Flanders & Swann performed in theaters across the UK and also had successful runs on radio and television. They released several albums, including "At the Drop of a Hat" and "At the Drop of Another Hat," which featured live recordings of their performances.

In 1967, Flanders & Swann decided to part ways and pursue solo projects. Michael Flanders tragically passed away in 1975, but Donald Swann continued to perform and compose music until his death in 1994.

Despite their relatively short time performing together, Flanders & Swann left a lasting impact on British comedy music. Their songs continue to be beloved by fans of all ages for their clever lyrics and timeless humor.
