Barenaked Ladies - Wake Up

0
Copied!

{Verse 1}
Wake up, I'm coming up
Did you get through the night?
Did the room start to spin
The walls go upside down?

{Verse 2}
Wake up, I'm coming up
The storm is out of sight
How about we go downstairs, put the kettle on?
Lemon or mint, whatever's kicking around

{Chorus}
You hold it down when I'm not around
I never asked you how you're holding on up
You put in full days and who heard you say
Never complained once that you've had enough

{Verse 3}
Wake up, I'm coming up
To carry the load today
I'm bringing my pickup truck
Drive your cares away

{Verse 4}
Wake up, I'm coming up
Bringing my pickup truck
Let's get on down to the lake
Maybe there's a path to take
And pick up some skipping stones

{Chorus}
You hold it down whеn I'm not around
I never asked you how you'rе holding on up
You put in full days and who heard you say
Never complained once that you've had enough

{Outro}
You were the first in line, the first on time
Make it easy to get right
You see it all, but if you fall
Who will answer when you call?

Barenaked Ladies

The meaning of the song

Biography

Barenaked Ladies is a Canadian rock band that was formed in Scarborough, Ontario in 1988. The band has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide and has won eight Juno Awards throughout their career.

The group originally started as a duo consisting of Steven Page and Ed Robertson, who were both counselors at a music camp. Robertson's previous band had dissolved, leading him to learn all of Page's songs and eventually start performing together. The name "Barenaked Ladies" was initially created as a one-time name for a charity gig, but the duo decided to keep it.

Their unique style of creating songs on the spot based on audience requests helped them gain popularity, and they were soon offered opening slots on regional and national tours. The addition of Andy & Jim Creeggan on percussion and bass, as well as drummer Tyler Stewart, solidified the band's lineup.

Barenaked Ladies gained national exposure when Toronto city officials deemed their name offensive, leading to coverage in major newspapers and on television. Their self-released Yellow Tape became the first independent release to achieve platinum status in Canada.

The band's breakthrough came with their album "Gordon" in 1992, which produced several hit singles including "If I Had $1,000,000" and "Brian Wilson." Subsequent albums like "Stunt" and "Maroon" solidified their success with chart-topping hits like "One Week" and "Pinch Me."

After the departure of Steven Page in 2008, the band continued to release albums and tour, achieving moderate success in North America. They reunited with Page for a performance at the 2018 Juno Awards when they were inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame.

Barenaked Ladies' unique blend of humor and catchy melodies has endeared them to fans around the world, cementing their status as one of Canada's most successful and enduring musical acts.
