Hella is an American math/noise rock band that was formed in Sacramento, California in 2001 by Spencer Seim and Zach Hill. The duo, consisting of Seim on guitar and Hill on drums, quickly gained recognition for their unique and experimental sound. Over the years, other musicians such as Dan Elkan and Aaron Ross have performed with the band, but Seim and Hill have remained the consistent core members.
Seim's guitar playing is characterized by his use of polyrhythms and double-tapping, creating the illusion of multiple guitars being played at once. Hill's drumming style is known for its hectic yet naturally flowing energy, with constantly changing drumkit setups that include unconventional items like trash cans, mailboxes, and saw blades as makeshift drums.
Hella released several albums throughout their career, with their latest one, Tripper, coming out in 2011. Following this release, the band went on an indefinite hiatus, leaving fans eagerly awaiting their return.
