Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968) is best known today as a prolific composer for the guitar, but was influential in his time as a music teacher. Born to a Jewish family in Florence, he emigrated to America as the persecution of Jews in Fascist Italy worsened. Though he was only officially credited with a handful of Hollywood film scores, he worked without credit on many more and taught many prominent film composers, including John Williams, Henry Mancini, and Jerry Goldsmith.
