Chains are a Californian hardcore band from San Francisco, California. Formed in 2014, they are fronted by Matt Wilson, who previously sang for popular pop-punk band, Set Your Goals.
When the song “Cages” premiered in late 2014, Matt Wilson had this to say about the project:
I am equal parts darkness and light, and I have always had ideas that wouldn’t quite work for Set Your Goals; either the lyrics were too dark or the parts were too aggressive,“ admitted Wilson. "Chains is an outlet for that. Once Set Your Goals slowed down I was able to put my ideas into motion. I grew up listening to extreme music, and this project is more in line with those tastes.
You can hear some of Set Your Goals' hardcore influence in songs like “This Song Is Definitely Not About A Girl and “Gaia Bleeds (Make Way for Man)”.
