Hi, my name is Joel Baraza. I’m a 16 year old Christian artist based in the Liverpool, UK.
I started song writing in 2015 when my I was introduced to the guitar and realised how much I enjoyed making music. This led to me waking up at 5 in the morning every Saturday and spending hours messing with my Mum’s keyboard or playing my Dad’s guitar. This went on until 2019 when I saw a childhood friend of mine DJing and it made it me realise pursing music was an actual option in life which led to me downloading the apps “edjing mix” and Bandlab on my phone and started messing around with the limited resources I had and posting them to Youtube. During this period I went under the name “PROUGUEX” which I changed to “KXNRAN” a year later during lockdown.
During lockdown I discovered Fl Studio mobile which was like a whole new universe to me. I had the ability to download drum kits and use my own samples. This is where my beatmaking journey began. I would post beats everyday, download accapellas off of looperman and make beats around them and spent every spare second I had creating. Eventually my parents got me a laptop at the start of 2021, they told me I wasn’t allowed to use it for music but I was so determined with music I did it anyway. I downloaded the Fl studio trial and I started making more listenable beats I was grinding to point I was missing my online classes (it was lockdown). Eventually during that summer I convinced my mom to get me a mic. it was the Tonor Q9. I have recording since 2018 but only started releasing music when my close friend and artist SiahThyLegend convinced me to start putting out his own music instead of just producing for other artists after hearing what I was making. This lead to my first single “Daily Basis” which I originally released under the name “Joey Unison” until I changed It to my government name “Joel Baraza” back in March of 2023. “ Daily Basis” is still one of my most streamed songs to this day.
Since then a lot has happened. I learned to freestyle, met some of my closest friends, did my first “concert” in room 345 of the ibis hotel in London, taught myself to sing released a strand of different genres and though all that, grown a lot as an artist and shifted from rapping to a more melodic style which led to my most recent single (at the time I’m writing this, 15th of Novemeber 2023) called “Fake Love”. Currently I have 1.1k monthly listeners on Spotify and 5k streams on Fake Love. I don’t know what the future holds for me as an artist or a a human being at all but I know Jesus has a plan and I know he’ll follow through.
