Ezedike
Jalen Tobar, (born June 22, 1998) known professionally as Ezedike, is a queer Chicago based singer, lyricist, and producer born and raised in South Bend, Indiana.

Ezedike self-released their first single, “That Old Black Magic” through their company (The Ezedike Company), & in collaboration with the artistic project The Black Voice, on August 15, 2020. The music video was released the following day, and as of September 6, 2020, has over 3K views. On October 17th, 2020 – they released the remix, and on November 14th, they released their debut project, “The Cupid Club” on which the remix is featured.

The title Ezedike is Nigerian in origin. It is a word created by the Igbo tribe for their royalty – specifically meaning mighty king. Though they are American & non-binary, Ezedike has stated that they, “chose this word to represent black excellence and to honor their position within the diaspora.” They’re currently laying the foundation for their entertainment company, whose mission is to “elevate those marginalized through humanitarian pursuits and ambitious, compelling art.”

Though their journey is beginning through music, they considers themselves, “a storyteller who’s work delves into other mediums of art.” This wide range of artistic pursuit is owed to their performance background. Their bold genre-bending music (which has been described as symphonic in approach) explores various facets of the experiences of queer people of color, while still containing universal themes. Their company is history in the making – it is the first multimedia entertainment company in history created and led by a queer person of color.
