What motivates the music of Utopia Now is the love of fast rock music and a passion for science and a rational understanding of our world. The meat of Utopia Now is in the lyrical content. Musically Utopia Now stands in the tradition of the California Punk Rock of the 80s and particularly 90s. This specific tradition Utopia Now owes its existence and style to is best emobdied by Bad Religion both lyrically and musically.

Utopia Now has sprung from the Berlin-based punk band INDIGO, which was founded around 2001 and lasted until 2006. At that point, singer, guitarist, and songwriter Stephan Serowy left the band and founded UTOPIA NOW. Both bands shared the stage with punk rock heroes such as Lagwagon, Anti Flag, A Wilhelm Scream, No Trigger, Good Clean Fun, Venerea and many more. However, UTOPIA NOW split in 2007.
Since then, Stephan has continued the band’s legacy in the form of a solo project. So all albums after 2007’s “Myopia” were recorded by him alone although, as of 2016, he is working on reanimating the band and getting it back onto the stage.
