Layla Rhule

Layla Rhule
Born to an Afro Jamaican father who once played bass in a reggae band and a Chinese Jamaican mother, Layla Rhule is a multifaceted artist who is able to blend elements of internationally renowned Jamaican genres like Reggae and Rocksteady with haunting piano melodies. Born and raised in the capital of Jamaica, Kingston, Layla is a classically trained pianist. She became interested in playing the piano upon seeing the instrument onstage as a child in devotions at elementary school and becoming fascinated with the R&B and soul music she heard on the radio as a young child. Her interest in piano was further solidified upon hearing Alicia Keys’ Fallin’ for the first time when she was 7 years old. She has intentionally set out to become an artiste that crafts songs with meaningful and powerful lyrics. Armed with a desire to carry on the strong tradition of classic Reggae songs with deep meanings and the sensibilities of a classically trained musician, she brings a sound rarely ventured by many Jamaican artists; a crossover version of reggae and dancehall that incorporates elements of other genres both like R&B, Pop, Latin music, Soca, Hip Hop and Classical Music. She invites you to take this journey with her.
