Donna Summer, born LaDonna Adrian Gaines on December 31, 1948, was a legendary musician known as the queen of disco. Her career began in Germany after being cast in a production of Hair, where she met Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, forming a dynamic music team.

Summer's breakthrough came with the release of the sensual hit "Love to Love You Baby" in 1975, which marked one of disco's first mainstream successes. She continued to rise to fame with hits like "I Feel Love" and "Last Dance", which won her an Academy Award and a Grammy.

In 1979, Summer released her iconic album Bad Girls, which featured hits like "Bad Girls" and "Hot Stuff". The album became triple-platinum and solidified her status as a disco legend. Throughout her career, Summer achieved numerous chart-topping hits and commercial success, earning her multiple gold records and accolades.

Despite battling lung cancer, Donna Summer continued to create music until her passing on May 17, 2012. Her legacy as a pioneering female artist in the music industry and her impact on the disco genre are unforgettable. Her daughter, Amanda, carries on the musical legacy as a member of the folk duo JOHNNYSWIM.
