Biography
The Olivia Tremor Control was an American psychedelic rock band that emerged as a prominent force in the mid-to-late 1990s. The band was one of the original projects of The Elephant 6 Recording Company, along with The Apples in stereo and Neutral Milk Hotel. Formed in 1994 by Jeff Mangum, Bill Doss, and Will Cullen Hart, who were remnants of the group Synthetic Flying Machine, The Olivia Tremor Control quickly made a name for themselves with their unique sound and experimental approach to music.
The band released a few singles before dropping their debut double-LP, Music From the Unrealized Film Script: Dusk at Cubist Castle, which was the first of two sprawling, cinematic albums. Alongside this album, they also released an ambient instrumental album called Explanation II: Instrumental Themes and Dream Sequences. It was said that when played together, these two albums produced quadraphonic sound.
Between the release of Cubist Castle and their second album, Black Foliage: Animation Music, Volume 1, The Olivia Tremor Control experimented with two albums under the moniker The Black Swan Network. Despite facing some challenges with the naming of their albums, the band continued to push boundaries and explore new musical territories.
