Jon Randall - Dairy Queen

0
Copied!

{Verse 1}
He was just a kid, barely seventeen
She was the best looking thing he'd ever seen
He got his old car running
E picked her up one night
And went flying down the highway
Half a tank and one headlight

{Verse 2}
He told her she was pretty, he told her that he cared
He told all the things a young girl wants to hear
She gave him a kiss, he gave her his high school ring
And they professed their love in front of Dairy Queen

{Instrumental Break}

{Verse 3}
But graduation came and life has to move along
Hеr daddy sent her off to collegе and he volunteered for Nam
She wed a doctor and moved to Austin
He came home a hero in a metal coffin

{Verse 4}
She talks to God sometimes, pray his soul be save
Calls his mom at Christmas, sends flowers to his grave
She keeps his memory close to her heart
And she hides that ring in an old money jar

{Instrumental Break}

{Verse 5}
She has no regrets, she loves her own man and kids
But there's still a part of her that belongs to him
And sometimes she gets sad and she daydreams
And she'll hop in her car and go to Dairy Queen

Biography

GRAMMY Award-winning producer, songwriter and musician, Jon Randall is set to release new music throughout 2021, with the first single of the year being “Keep On Moving.” This will be his first artist release in over 15 years, after years of touring and a slew of songwriting cuts, producer credits, and multiple award nominations including 4 GRAMMY, 5 ACM, and 6 CMA nominations.

With songwriting being at the core, Jon Randall is consistently writing and has had cuts with many artists ranging from Guy Clark to Marren Morris to Blake Shelton. “Tin Man,” which was co-written with Miranda Lambert and Jack Ingram, won the 2018 ACM Song Of The Year Award, and was also nominated for the 2017 CMA Song Of The Year and 2018 GRAMMY for Best Country Song. He was also awarded the 2005 CMA Song Of The Year Award for “Whiskey Lullaby” released by Brad Paisley & Alison Krauss. His success as a songwriter has been rightly acknowledged many times, having also been awarded IBMA, Music City News, NSAI, and BMI awards for various recordings including three number one records on the Billboard Country Music Chart and five songs in the Billboard Country Top Forty. His extensive list of cuts also includes Reba McEntire, Emmylou Harris, Maren Morris, Dierks Bentley, Kenny Chesney, Kip Moore, Brad Paisley, Scotty McCreery,Guy Clark, Little Big Town, Gary Allen and Travis Denning.

Randall’s well rounded experience as a musician and songwriter, led him to becoming an acclaimed producer. He produced Dierks Bentley’s Up On The Ridge and The Mountain, the first being nominated for a GRAMMY Award for Best Country Album, and both earning him ACM and CMA Album Of The Year nominations. Randall’s production on The Mountain’s “Burning Man ft. Brothers Osborne” also earned him the 2019 ACM Award for Music Event Of The Year. Other artists he has produced include: Dwight Yoakam (Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars…), Jack Ingram (Ridin’ High….Again, Midnight Motel), Pat Green (Home), Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (Speed Of Life), Jessi Alexander (Decatur County Red), and most recently Parker McCollum (Hollywood Gold), with the lead single Pretty Heart achieving platinum certification.

While it won’t come as a surprise, Randall’s impressive career started with equally impressive beginnings, as a guitarist for Emmylou Harris’ Nash Ramblers with whom he won his first GRAMMY for their Live at the Ryman album. As a skilled multi-instrumentalist and exceptional vocalist, Randall has toured and recorded with countless household names including Lyle Lovett, J2B2, The Sam Bush Band, Vince Gill, Earl Scruggs Family and Friends, Patty Loveless and Dierks Bentley. He has also had on-stage appearances with the likes of Sheryl Crow, Widespread Panic, and more.

Between 1995 and 2005 Randall released four solo albums, What You Don’t Know, Cold Coffee Morning, Willin’ and Walking Among the Living. These albums were met with critical acclaim, and appreciated by americana, country and bluegrass fans alike. Randall wrote or co-wrote all but one song on Walking Among the Living, including the title track, which he penned with his wife, Jessi Alexander.

Jon Randall is also a member of 18 South, a culmination of acclaimed songwriters and Nashville’s best session musicians collaborating to create Soulful Southern roots music. Along with Randall, the band consists of Jessi Alexander, Jimmy Wallace, Mike Bub, Larry Atamanuik and Guthrie Trapp.

A force to be reckoned with, Jon Randall continues to write, record, perform, and produce, as well as contributing to the industry, most recently serving as Governor and President on the board of the Nashville Recording Academy. Randall has been nominated for four CMA awards, five ACM awards, and four GRAMMY awards. He and his wife, Jessi, have three children and are based outside of Nashville, TN. Having strong connections with his Texan roots, Randall splits his time between Tennessee and Texas when he’s not touring or in the studio.
