On the stage here this evening
You're going to meet the composers, they're all here
And from time to time they'll be coming to the stage
You'll get acquainted with
Not only the music that they write and compose
But, uh, how they perform, what they look like, and so forth
I don't think that we've ever
Been associated with a more romantic writer than Ken Hanna

Stan Kenton was an American pianist, composer, and bandleader who was one of the most innovative and influential figures in jazz during the mid-20th century. Born on December 15, 1911 in Wichita, Kansas, Kenton showed a talent for music at a young age and began playing the piano when he was just a child.

In the 1930s, Kenton moved to Los Angeles and began working as a pianist and arranger for various bands. He quickly gained a reputation for his innovative arrangements and his unique approach to big band jazz. In 1941, he formed his own band, the Stan Kenton Orchestra, which would go on to become one of the most popular and influential jazz bands of the era.
