King Reign, born in Toronto to Trinidadian and Guyanese parents, was a prolific MC who was more of the people than a ruler of people. Known for his exceptional talents and character, Reign was a celebrated force in the hip-hop community until his unexpected passing in the summer of 2016.

Reign, whose name was an acronym for Rhyme Energy in God’s Nature, was always drawn to the arts and had a gift for painting vivid pictures through his narrative rhymes. His lyrics were soulful in both content and sound, showcasing his wisdom beyond his years and genre.

Throughout his career spanning over two decades, Reign fearlessly tackled topics such as twisted love, drug abuse, and racial stereotypes in a conversational manner. He was a father of two children and his music reflected his surroundings and experiences.

As a member of Brassmunk, Reign was Juno nominated and also found success as a solo artist with his critically acclaimed album, Sincere. He collaborated with well-known artists such as Drake, Pharoahe Monch, and Kardinal Offishall, making a lasting impact on the hip-hop scene.

Reign’s thoughtful lyrics, meaningful hooks, and diverse beats, along with his ability to direct his own music videos, set him apart as a storyteller with purpose and honesty.
