DBMK - Air France

0
Copied!
I’ve been thinking about this part of my life

When I was a really young kid
My mom and I moved to, somewhere overseas so we could be with my dad

Anyways, you know the story, messy divorce, whole nine

I’m like, young, and like adapting to this culture in like some pretty formative years

My moms going through it like I’ve never seen

And I’m really young and I’m really scared and no ones around

It was like a year and a half we stayed there

And I’m learning the language, I’m translating for hеr, I’m getting the groceriеs, I’m getting whatever

And, alienated

So the time comes and we go back to the states, and I grew up fast

And we were in the airport

And my mom grabbed me with this look in her eyes

And she said, I'll never forget this
She said

“You know sometimes, sometimes I think you’re better off if the boogieman came and snatched you up.”

DBMK

The meaning of the song

"Air France" by DBMK is a deeply personal and emotional song that reflects on the artist's childhood experiences of moving overseas with their mother during a messy divorce. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a young child trying to adapt to a new culture while also shouldering the responsibility of supporting their struggling mother. The song captures the feelings of alienation, fear, and loneliness that the artist experienced during this tumultuous time in their life. The chorus, where the artist's mother expresses a heartbreaking sentiment about the child being better off if they were taken away by the boogieman, is particularly poignant and showcases the emotional weight of the song. Overall, "Air France" is a raw and introspective track that delves into the complexities of family dynamics and the lasting impact of childhood trauma.

Biography

Set to release their incomparable EP “Jump In The Dark” – this is the first body of music since Kyle Knudsen & Colton Ward took DBMK by the reins and merged the old narrative with the new. Molded from their native St. Petersburg, Florida, DBMK tells the story of the very beginning of a revolution; heavy weighted with heartache, inner chaos, and the entropy that follows. This adventure has taken fans on a journey; which has amassed an intense international following, dubbing themselves “the kult.” The Kult consists of fans that turn into friends, who relate to the band on a personal level. This following has earned the band the opportunity to sell out venues in Florida early on while progressing in the recent years of multiple US tours.

The title of the new record itself acts as an invitation to join the ranks and celebrate everything that sets you against the grain. Acting as a pair of busy magpies, the group makes its sound by breaking the rules and throwing out genres: collecting shiny bits from orchestral arrangements and electronic film scores, to new wave and old school hip hop. So what are you waiting for? The youth of the world has but two options; fall in line or Jump in The Dark.
