A darling young lady used to sit on the hillside
And sing to the stars from dusk until dawn
The stars up above her loved her sweet music
And they shimmered with colors as she sang every song
She’d gaze through the pinholes poked in the night sky
And wonder what wonders and beauties they’d hold
She’d stay on that hillside all day if you’d let her
But at home there’s a furnace a-wantin’ for coal
The stars cry out for Aurora, but Aurora is headed on home

For all of her years, Aurora kept coming
Meeting the moon as it rose every night
But the heavens don’t age, at least not as quickly
And one night Aurora made her last climb
She followed that old path her feet had worn ragged
And one final time, she sat there and sang
One last sweet song, she sang the stars’ favorite
And gave up the ghost as that final note rang
The stars cry out for Aurora, but Aurora is headed on home

Calling out to Aurora from that far eastern sky
