Wednesday - The House Of The Rising Sun

0
Copied!

{Chorus}
There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God, I know I'm one

{Verse 1}
My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new blue jeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans

{Verse 2}
Oh, mothers, tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun

{Verse 3}
Got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain

{Chorus}
Well, there is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God, I know I'm one

Wednesday

The meaning of the song

"Wednesday - The House Of The Rising Sun" is a haunting and introspective song that tells the story of a young man's downfall in New Orleans. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a life filled with sin and misery, as the protagonist reflects on the mistakes that led him to his current state. The chorus, with its powerful imagery of the infamous House of the Rising Sun, serves as a poignant reminder of the consequences of one's actions. The soulful melody and emotional vocals add to the overall melancholic tone of the song, making it a powerful and thought-provoking piece of music.

Biography

Wednesday is an indie rock band based in Asheville, North Carolina that began releasing music in 2018. Originally a musical collaboration between University of North Carolina students Karly Hartzman and Daniel Gorham, the group expanded into its current iteration as a five-piece outfit composed of frontwoman Karly Hartzman (vocals/rhythm guitar/primary songwriter), Jake “MJ” Lenderman (lead guitar), Xandy Chelmis (lap steel guitar), Margo Schultz (bass), and Alan Miller (drums).

The band’s name Wednesday comes from Karly Hartzman and original member Daniel Gorham’s mutual appreciation of English jangle pop band The Sundays, especially their 1990 album Reading, Writing and Arithmetic. Yet The Sundays' soft guitar music is a far cry from Wednesday’s current musical output, which is mainly an amalgamation of ‘90s-inspired noisy slacker rock with elements of country and shoegaze … also known as “country-gaze.”
