glaive - theres a little bit farther left to go

Copied!

{Verse}
I feel everything forever, I just hope I make my dad proud
My mom wanted a daughter, I'm tryna act like a man now
I was raised to never take handouts, but I still pray with my hands out
I have yet to forgive my past self
And I don't know if I ever will
Just a little bit farther
Just a little bit farther left to go (Go)
And I don't know if I ever will
Just a little bit farther
Just a little bit farther left to go

{Chorus}
Carry on, carry on, we'll be okay
I think it's better we made it end this way
Carry on, carry on, we'll be okay
I think it's better we made it end this way

{Bridge}
Got eighty sixed out of the bar, I’m goin' eighty five (Carry on, carry on, we'll be okay)
I think it's better we made it end this way
I fill myself until the bottom just to feel alive (Carry on, carry on, we'll be okay)
I think it's better we made it end this way (Ayy)

{Outro}
Carry on, carry on, carry on
Carry on, carry on, carry on
Carry on, carry on, carry on
I think it's better we made it end this way

Biography

Ash Gutierrez (born January 20, 2005), better known as glaive, is an artist residing in North Carolina. Glaive is best known for his colorful hooks, passionate lyrics, and the sugary background instrumentals that accompany him.

He is one of the newest artists to emerge from the thriving hyperpop community on SoundCloud. Despite having connections within this community and being placed in community-based hyperpop playlists, Glaive himself considers some of his music to still be plain pop, as he states in a New York Times interview:

I feel like hyperpop is not a genre, I’ve made straight-up pop songs, nothing hyper about them, but they’ll still get put in the hyperpop label because I’m friends with all the people that make ‘hyperpop.’”

Glaive’s pop/electronic sound didn’t come from nowhere. In a 2020 interview with Lyrical Lemonade entitled “The New Normal: A Conversation w/ Glaive”, when asked about his inspirations, Glaive says:

I grew up listening to loads of Pop music in the 2010s. I got more into listening to EDM, which comes through a lot in my music. I was listening to midwest emo music, punk rock and that’s where you can hear the guitars come through. More recently, it’s kind of obvious but 100gecs, Brakence, all those “hyperpop” artists that are big now.

On social media, Glaive often expresses his love for animals, especially a certain orangutang named Pete. Pete has solidified his spot in the Glaive universe by being used as the cover art for “pissed”. In the interview with Lyrical Lemonade, he tells the story behind his primate friend, saying:

My family were showing some videos, I see this video of an orangutang on my Mom’s camera. I did some looking into it and I found out that his name was Pete, I was like wow this is such a funny video. I took a screenshot out of the video and make it my profile picture. I tweeted about it and it did well so I decided to keep tweeting about it. People started to ask questions about what it meant but they started to put my name together with the orangutang. I don’t know how but kind of fits my personality, I like it.

Glaive signed a deal with Interscope Records in October 2020 to release two EPs, the first of which was Cypress Grove, released on November 19th 2020, and all dogs to to heaven, released August 6th, 2021. As of the release of the second album, glaive is once again an independent artist.
