Arch Enemy is a Swedish melodic death metal band that was formed in Halmstad in 1996. The band was founded by Michael Amott, who was previously a guitarist for Carcass, along with Johan Liiva, who both came from the influential death metal band Carnage.

Originally fronted by Johan Liiva, Arch Enemy gained recognition for their aggressive sound and powerful performances. In 2000, German vocalist Angela Gossow joined the band as the lead vocalist, bringing a new dynamic to their music. Gossow's fierce growls and powerful stage presence helped solidify Arch Enemy's reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the metal scene.
