Krystal Evette - Writer’s room

0
Copied!
(Verse One)
I pick up the pen
With my ink in blood
I'm sitting at the top
And the beat is tough
I try to find diamonds
But it's all the rough
My writing is my weapon
So I kept it tucked
Yeah, my bars have been lethal
Watch 'em down the dose
There's a point where they stop
But I still have to go
April showers soon
Know it'll melt the snow
Think they'll be May flowers
But now, I don't know

(Break)
Life is so chaotic
Sifting through the toxic
This depression chronic
Maybe I had lost it
Thought that I had solved it
Thought I had resolved it
But my mind's still on it
Thoughts on supersonic
(Verse Two)
Going against mysеlf
As if this were a race
Thought that I saw thе devil
Saw a different face
Shift in my hands
The way I weigh the blame
Thought I'd try but have baggage
That they don't want to claim
So I look at the ceiling
Screens light up the room
Thought that I would die there
Would be the writer's tomb
Yeah, things might get better
Think it might be soon
But I still feel the darkness
In it I'm consumed

The meaning of the song

Biography

Krystal Amethyst Evette, born December 1, 1997, is a trans artist from Youngstown, Ohio. She started writing poetry in middle school. The dark subject matter would get her called into the guidance councilor’s office frequently. When she started high school, she was outed as gay. Once the “big secret” was finally out, she began to experiment with her style and gender identity, She started using she/her pronouns at 16. It was also around this time she made the shift from poetry to music.

She released her first album “Bones” when she was 17 years old in her senior year of high school. The following EP’s “Nothing” and “Roadkill”, containing unreleased songs from “Bones” as well as other new material were released in 2016 while she was still in high school. After graduation, she began work on her second album “Underworld”. However, a few months later, she was sexually assaulted by a classmate and his friend. After this, she scrapped what she had for “Underworld” and decided to rewrite it based on her experiences following high school including the events that occurred after the assault. In November of 2018, “Underworld” was released and she was back into the full swing of making music. Not even two months later, she released the first single off her next EP “Expectations” titled “Resolutions”. “Expectations” was a collection of songs that were social commentaries about the world at the time.

In February of 2020, she released one of her most acclaimed EP’s titled “Fetish”. With an A-side / B-side concept, “Fetish” explored Krystal’s love life and the fetishization of trans women and how all she wanted was to be loved. Originally, Krystal intended to release an EP about the pandemic. However, after two singles (“Quarantine” and “Don’t Trust The Government”), the project was scrapped. Instead, in April of 2020, she began the writing process for her third album “Grey”. While writing “Grey”, Krystal started to work on a new EP, “Petty”, which took a completely different direction than her previous work. For the first time, she wanted to make fun music for the sake of making fun music. Though with struggles in her personal life, she later stated towards the end of writing “Petty”, it began to feel like a lie. Once it was released in June, she released a few one off singles that summer while she was finishing up “Grey”. Two previously unreleased songs as well as one new one, In August of 2021, she finished writing the album and in December of 2021, she finally released it.

Prior to the release, she had begun work on her next EP titled “Obsessed”. Capturing the toxic mindset that she had while in a toxic situation, she looks back at the songs and describes them as “being under hypnosis”. Krystal originally didn’t want to release the EP in fear of making it feel like the toxic mindset was okay. However, released it out of the blue explaining “not releasing this would be like pretending this part of my life didn’t happen”. Though unfinished, she released what she had for the EP and never looked back. After the falling out of the abusive situation, Krystal was in a dangerously dark place. And in August of 2022, she was admitted to a psychiatric hospital – the same one where the root of this toxic situation started. However, within her four day stay, she wrote nine songs completely unexpectedly and unexplained. And with that, she began writing her next album “Agony”.

Still incredibly wounded and in the thick of the healing process, she was afraid to even take the songs off paper. So, for months, she just wrote. In late 2022, she released a 3 track single titled “Gimme A Minute”. Dipping her toes back into making and releasing music, she started to ease her way back into recording. In January 2023, she released the first single and the opening track to “Agony” titled “I’m Still Here” as her reclaiming her power. She slowly continued to record the album. Confronting and saying these things out loud was extremely challenging and painful. But, in May of 2023, “Agony” was released. That summer, she got a breast augmentation and began playing life shows opening for Cupcakke. She is currently working on her fifth album titled “REVENGE” which is one half of a two album follow up to “Agony”. With SRS in September and “REVENGE” in the air, Krystal is ready to conquer the world.
