Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell, known professionally as Billie Eilish, was born on December 18, 2001, in Los Angeles, California. Coming from a family of musicians and actors, Billie was exposed to the entertainment industry from a young age. She initially pursued a career in dance, but a growth plate injury in 2015 led her to focus on music instead.
With the help of her older brother Finneas, who is her co-writer and producer, Billie began creating music that quickly gained attention online. Their first breakout hit, "ocean eyes," went viral on SoundCloud, leading to a record deal with Interscope. Billie released her debut EP, dont smile at me, in 2017, which received critical acclaim and landed her a spot on Apple Music's UpNext showcase for upcoming artists.
