Bobby Womack was born on March 4, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio. He grew up in a musical family and began singing gospel music at a young age. Womack and his brothers formed the group the Valentinos in the early 1960s, and they quickly gained attention for their soulful sound and Womack's songwriting abilities.

The Valentinos had a few hits, including "Looking for a Love" and "It's All Over Now," both written by Womack. The latter song was famously covered by the Rolling Stones, becoming their first number one hit in the UK. This success helped to launch Womack's career as a solo artist.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Womack had numerous hits on the pop and R&B charts, including "Across 110th Street," "Woman's Gotta Have It," and "If You Think You're Lonely Now." He was known for his soulful voice, heartfelt lyrics, and his skill as a guitarist.

In addition to his solo career, Womack worked as a producer and session musician, collaborating with artists such as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and Wilson Pickett. He was respected in the music industry for his talent and versatility.
