First off, rest in peace to Elijah McClain
I don’t want to hear them try to explain
Killing an innocent guy that was playing violin for kittens
Just to justify with the same
“He looked violent, suspicious” lies that they claim
To normalize the Black lives that they slain
I’d rather spend time
Immortalizing his name
In the name of justice, it may give comfort
To know that he ain’t dying in vain
Cuz that boy ain’t deserve to be another silent statistic
But now he’s an icon symbolizing the change
The need for reform
Policeman ain’t born sociopathic, so why do they stay
Choosing brutality as the norm?
Hiding in plain sight, with their name
Badge getting filmed while they fire and aim?
So what are they trying to say
When offing a man on camera
Isn’t enough evidence to file him away?
Something’s gotta give
You can try to contain all the cries and the rage
With empty promises made like “I got it, hey!
We’ll apologize and just say that we’ll stand with you...
So let’s prioritize who will play
Cleveland Brown on Family Guy
When their main objective is to offend
So you can forget about shifting the tide for the day
When you can be riding the wave!

In honor of Elijah McClain
And countless others who died from the same system
It needs to happen systematically
Historical patterns be showing this cycle of hate
It’s nothing new, but it’s nothing to get adjusted to
Because every cycle can be broken
And it’s about time that it breaks
