Alanis Nadine Morissette was born on June 1, 1974, in Ottawa, Canada. She showed a strong interest in music from a young age, starting piano lessons at 6 and writing her own songs by 9. At 11, Morissette joined the cast of a Nickelodeon children’s show and used her earnings to self-release her first track, “Fate Stay With Me,” catching the attention of record label MCA Canada. She signed a contract with the company at 14 and released her self-titled album, Alanis, in 1991, which went platinum.

In 1994, Morissette moved to Los Angeles and began collaborating with industry veteran Glen Ballard. Together, they created the iconic album Jagged Little Pill, released in 1995, which won several Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. The album’s single “You Oughta Know” became a major hit, showcasing Morissette’s edgy, alternative sound.

Following the success of Jagged Little Pill, Morissette released Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie in 1998, exploring themes of redemption and reconciliation. She continued to evolve as an artist, writing and producing her own albums, including Under Rug Swept in 2001 and So-Called Chaos in 2004.

In 2008, Morissette released Flavors of Entanglement, drawing inspiration from her breakup with actor Ryan Reynolds. She married Mario “MC Souleye” Treadway in 2010 and welcomed their son, Ever Imre Morissette-Treadway, later that year.

Morissette continued to create music, releasing her eighth studio album Havoc and Bright Lights after the birth of her son. In 2015, she celebrated the 20th anniversary of Jagged Little Pill by releasing a remastered version with unreleased tracks, cementing her status as a influential and enduring figure in the music industry.
