The Mentally Ill are a punk band that formed in the late 1970’s in Deerfield, Illinois which is a suburb of Chicago. They released their debut EP, “Gacy’s Place” in 1979 and another called “Sex Cells” in 1982 before fading into obscurity. They returned to the studio later in 1999 with famous producer Steve Albini for an album titled “Strike the Bottom Red” and had a compilation album designed by Jello Biafra titled “Gacy’s Place: The Undiscovered Corpses” released in 2004. Their first live performance was in 2007.

They have since made very sporadic live appearances since then, with their most recent being for a benefit in Chicago around the 2011-2013 range.
