Modest Mouse - This Is Real Life

0
Copied!
Choices and the voices of their lying lips
Riding in the backseat of your closet ship
Feeding while they're eating all our innocence

And I know that this is real life
In the backyard, on the loveseat
With the TV in the cellar

And I know that this is real life
And I am talking to the sofa in the soda machine
And they're giving up logic that I've never seen though

Won't you let me in on your secret?
In the cellar
You can just blame a fortune teller

I got a reason that I'm giving up
Everything that I ever owned or I've ever got
Or you ever gave me

You wanna know the reason?
Oh, I don't know my friends
You wanna know the meaning?
I don't know the reason

Look at our creation, oh
It's too boring, and then
You want another way back home?
I don't know direction

You want to know a secret?
You're my favorite friend
You want to see me bleeding now?
I'm calling this 'an end'

And you don't do what you want to
And they try to control you
Why don't you laugh in my face again?
You know that I haven't got enough friends
Why don't you spit in my tears again?
You know that this means my end

The meaning of the song

Biography

Modest Mouse is an American indie rock band formed in 1992 in Issaquah, Washington, by singer/lyricist/guitarist Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green and bassist Eric Judy. The band’s lineup has dramatically changed over the years, and the only original members still in the band to date are Brock and Green. For a lineup timeline, see here.

Modest Mouse released their debut album This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About in April 1996 and have released six studio albums to date. They gained mainstream recognition with their April 2004 effort Good News for People Who Love Bad News and it is their commercially best-selling album, being certified Platinum by the RIAA.

Modest Mouse’s name s derived from a passage from the Virginia Woolf story “The Mark on the Wall” which reads:

I wish I could hit upon a pleasant track of thought, a track indirectly reflecting credit upon myself, for those are the pleasantest thoughts, and very frequent even in the minds of modest, mouse-coloured people, who believe genuinely that they dislike to hear their own praises.
