Heath McNease - Zion

0
Copied!

{Hook: Heath McNease}
Zion, you are always on my mind and I want
A family reunion in the sky in due time
Zion, I march in time with loved ones towards you, I want
You to greet me with your arms wide open and open them wide

{Verse 1: Heath McNease}
Romans' road is full of these potholes
And the plot grows and it thickens
And we're all frozen and smitten
Like we all chose to be victims
But the wall shows me what's written
I was measured and weighed I missed it
Found wanting, discarded, and distant
Ain't resorted to carving my wrist yet
But I've been tempted, sin sets in this infection
Friends step when this gets desperate
Wind sprint when my skin's leprous
Left dead by my kindred when my sad kindred said
'Listen, let's live this instead of this recklessness listlessness yes
Guessing it's just us now, the lepers that stuck this out
No sign of a faux family pumping the same blood now
Nothing but up now, now we struck out
To see what clouds we can touch now
Well it's under the blood now

{Hook: Heath McNease}
Zion, you are always on my mind and I want
A family reunion in the sky in due time
Zion, I march in time with loved ones towards you, I want
You to greet me with your arms wide open and open them wide

{Bridge: Heath McNease}
What can I say, what can I say
Better is one day, better is one day

{Verse 2: Red Cloud}
Look (ah)
Alongside Babylon's rivers, we sat on the frozen ice cold banks
We wept and we cried and we tried to
Remember the sweet good old days
Alongside the blackened and crackling aspens
That's our breaking heart
Weeping profusely besides ourselves
We stacked our unplayed harps
That's when the captors (?...)
Sarcastic and mocking and egging us on
Sings us a ballad
The valor you speak of, the banner you preach of, the song of Zion
Oh how could we ever sing God's song in this wasteland?
In your face, man
If I ever forget you, Jerusalem, lose me in quicksand
Well I just can't
My fingers they wither and fall like ash
My tongue be swollen and then turn black
If I fail to remember you, Zion
My lion, my bride, the spine on my back
God remember those Edomites now
Remember they ruined Jerusalem's walls
Remeber they yelled out "Let's smash it to pieces
Let's work it completely, Jerusalem falls!"
Babylonian unholy ones, raiders and savages, ravaging Huns
Lord every word to whoever gets back at them
For the crime and all that they've done
The city of David where Israel walks
Solomon's Temple of Zion I come
Yes, a reward to who every grabs Babylon's babies to
Go smash their heads on the rocks

{Hook: Heath McNease}
Zion, you are always on my mind and I want
A family reunion in the sky in due time
Zion, I march in time with loved ones towards you, I want
You to greet me with your arms wide open and open them wide

Heath McNease

The meaning of the song

Biography

Heath McNease is an indie rapper slash alternative folk artist slash Twitter comedian from South Georgia (or Jawjah, as he would say). He’s arguably the most hard-working upcoming artist, having released 15+ projects over the last 5 years (by comparison, most artists release an album every year or so)

Associated artists:
Playdough, Redcloud, Propaganda, JGivens,Pigeon John, Greg Lafollete, ManChild, Jetty Rae, Isaac Knox, HeirJordan.

Associated Acts:
- Free Daps
- Pen Pals
- Whose Rhyme is it Anyway (defunct)

Genres:
- Singer-Songwriter, Folk, Parody, Hip-hop (southern, classic, nerdcore)

For fans of:
- The Swell Season
- The Avett Brothers
- The Civil Wars
- The Weepies
- Simon & Garfunkel

Growing up, his musical influences included folk artists like Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, and The Carpenters.

However, thanks to his older brothers, Heath’s also a hip-hop nerd, particularly fond of gangsta and Southern rappers like Outkast and Warren G, “f-bombs and all”.

He attended Valdosta State University and graduated in 2006 with a degree in musical theater.

Though faith heavily influences his music, Heath wouldn’t necessarily classify himself as a “Christian” artist. He’s no squeaky-clean, Chris Tomlin, Contemporary Christian Music musician. He exposes his doubts and fears about faith honestly.

From serious to trivial, Heath is a melange of musical styles and content:

For honest, heartfelt biographical and spiritual content set to mellow folk, check out one of his newer releases, Who Knows? Who Cares?.

For an example of hilarious, multi-syllabic pop culture references layered over your favorite catchy hip-hop beats, check out his newest singles, Rapper and Bicentennial Man (Michigan).
