The meaning of the song

Biography

Freddie Gibbs, the tenacious voice out of Gary, Indiana, has crafted a unique pathway in the realms of hip-hop, embodying the essence of underground Midwest gangsta rap with an unapologetic authenticity. Since bursting onto the scene in 2003, Gibbs has steadfastly delivered mixtapes that showcase his gritty storytelling and relentless flow, carving a niche for himself in the competitive music industry.

The journey from his mixtape beginnings to releasing his first solo studio album was a decade-long grind, culminating in the 2013 release of ESGN (Evil Seeds Grow Naturally). This album set the stage for Gibbs' intricate narratives and his ability to navigate the complexities of street life through his lyrics.

In 2014, Freddie Gibbs expanded his musical horizons with Piñata, a groundbreaking collaboration with the legendary producer Madlib. The album received widespread critical acclaim for its fusion of Gibbs' hard-hitting lyricism with Madlib’s eclectic production, marking a pivotal moment in Gibbs' career and hip-hop alike.

Following the success of Piñata, Gibbs didn't rest on his laurels. He continued to explore his solo artistry with albums such as Shadow of a Doubt and You Only Live 2wice. These projects further solidified his place in the rap game, showcasing his versatility and depth as an artist.

2018 saw Gibbs branching out for another significant collaboration, this time joining forces with rapper Curren$y and the prolific producer The Alchemist for the album Fetti. This project was a showcase of synergy, with each artist bringing their best to the table, creating a rich tapestry of sounds and stories.

In a full-circle moment, 2019 reunited Gibbs with Madlib for their second joint venture, Bandana. Echoing the critical success of their first collaboration, Bandana was met with similar praise, reinforcing the dynamic chemistry between Gibbs’ vivid storytelling and Madlib's unconventional beats.

Riding high on the acclaim of Bandana, 2020 saw yet another landmark in Gibbs' career with the release of Alfredo, a collaboration with The Alchemist. The album was lauded for its lyrical prowess and intricate production, proving once again that Gibbs is a force to be reckoned with in the landscape of hip-hop.

Freddie Gibbs’ trajectory from an underground mixtape rapper to a critically acclaimed artist is a testament to his resilience, talent, and unwavering commitment to his craft. Through his collaborations and solo endeavors, Gibbs continues to push the boundaries, leaving an indelible mark on the genre.
