Atlanta-based artist omgwavy released his debut album “House of Waves” on SoundCloud. The album reached 8 million plays worldwide in fewer than three days and is receiving high marks for its cohesiveness, maturity and expressive, musical prowess.

On “House of Waves,”omgwavy explores loss and purpose. Through his experiences with love, depression and regret, he encourages listeners to follow their goals and aspire to more than they thought possible to find true happiness.

Songs like “Medicine,” Stars” and “Care” dive into the strained relationships between omgwavy and his love interests. In the lyrics from “Sorry” and “Lost,” the artist allows the listener to connect with him through his regrets, mistakes and insecurities.

On the songs “Respect,” “Turn it up” and “Seventeen,” he expresses a strong sense of self-worth while grasping some of life’s challenging lessons as he comes to terms with the stark realities of being a young, African-American man living in a turbulent and divided nation.

For example, he wrote and recorded “Seventeen” when he learned that, in the state of Georgia, a 17-year-old, particularly an African American teen can be charged as an adult for minor infractions.

“Music is my passion. I want my fans and listeners to take a journey with me,” omgwavy said upon release of the album, which took six months to complete. “I want them to understand that it is okay to be insecure, in love and heartbroken.

“Being a teenager is confusing, challenging, and weird,” he said. “I want to convey that through my music. These songs best represent me as an artist.”

Laura Snapes of pitchfork gave the debut album high marks, writing: “Omgwavy’s debut is sentimental, mature, and defiant: the sound of a young man exploring love, turmoil and triumph.”
