Kreator is a thrash metal band hailing from Essen, Germany, known for their aggressive and intense style of music. The band formed in 1982, initially performing under the name Tormentor before eventually settling on the name Kreator in 1984. Alongside fellow German thrash metal bands Destruction and Sodom, Kreator is often credited with helping pioneer the death metal genre by incorporating elements that would later define the genre.

In their early years, Kreator played a speed metal style with influences from bands like Venom. Their debut album, Endless Pain, was released in 1985 and was followed by the popular Pleasure to Kill in 1986. Despite their early success, it wasn't until the release of their twelfth studio album, Hordes of Chaos, in 2009 that Kreator experienced major commercial success in the United States. The album peaked at number 165 on the Billboard 200 and reached No. 16 on the Media Control Charts in Germany, marking the band's highest chart position in their home country.

Throughout their career, Kreator has explored different musical styles, venturing into industrial and gothic influences from 1992 to 1999 before returning to their classic thrash sound. The band has released thirteen studio albums, two EPs, one live album, and three compilation albums, showcasing their versatility and evolution as musicians. Their thirteenth studio album, Phantom Antichrist, released in June 2012, has been well received by fans and critics alike.

With their high-energy live performances and dedication to their craft, Kreator has solidified their place as one of the most influential and enduring bands in the thrash metal genre. Their commitment to pushing boundaries and experimenting with different sounds has earned them a loyal following around the world, cementing their status as legends in the metal scene.
