Tyr - The Wild Rover

0
Copied!
I've been a wild rover for many a year
And I've spent all my money on whiskey and beer
But now I'm returning with gold in great store
And never I'll play the wild rover no more

I went to a shanty I used to frequent
And told the landlady my money were spent
I asked her for credit, she answered me "Nay"
Saying, "Customers like you I can get any day"

{Chorus}
And it's no nay never
No nay never no more
Will I play the wild rover
No never no more

I drew from my pocket ten sovereigns bright
The landlady's eyes opened wide with delight
Saying, "I have the whiskey and wine of the best
And the words that I told you were only in jest"

{Chorus}
And it's no nay never
No nay never no more
Will I play the wild rover
No never no more

{Solo}

I'll go home to my parents, tell them what I've done
And hope they will pardon their prodigal son
And if they will do as so often before
No never I'll play the wild rover no more

{Chorus}
And it's no nay never
No nay never no more
Will I play the wild rover
No never no more

Biography

Týr is a power metal band hailing from the Faroe Islands, known for their unique sound and thematic focus on Norse mythology and Viking culture. The band was formed in January 1998 when Heri Joensen met Kári Streymoy at a party in Copenhagen, Denmark. Despite initial reluctance, Streymoy eventually agreed to join Joensen in forming the band, with bassist Gunnar Thomsen soon joining the lineup.

The band takes its name from Týr, the Norse god of justice, and their music is heavily inspired by Norse mythology and Viking traditions. In the early days of their career, Týr released their debut album "How Far to Asgaard" through the Faroese label Tutl. However, it was their album "Eric the Red," dedicated to Erik the Red, that caught the attention of Napalm Records, leading to a distribution deal and international recognition.

Throughout their career, Týr has toured extensively across Europe and the United States, sharing the stage with bands like Ensiferum, Eluveitie, Turisas, Moonsorrow, and Korpiklaani. They have released several acclaimed albums, including "Ragnarok," "Land," "By the Light of the Northern Star," "The Lay of Thrym," and "Valkyrja."

In 2012, Týr signed a contract with Metal Blade Records, further solidifying their place in the metal music scene. Their album "Valkyrja," released in 2013, tells the story of a Viking warrior who meets his demise in battle and is escorted to the afterlife by Valkyries. The album features covers of songs by Iron Maiden and Pantera, showcasing Týr's unique take on classic metal tracks.

With their distinctive sound and powerful storytelling, Týr continues to captivate audiences around the world with their epic tales of Norse mythology and Viking lore.
