Camel
Camel is a British progressive rock band that emerged in the 1970s and has become one of the most underrated groups in the genre. Formed in 1971 by Andrew Latimer (guitar), Andy Ward (drums), Doug Ferguson (bass), and Peter Bardens (keyboards), the band signed with MCA Records in 1972 and released their self-titled debut album in 1973 to little success.

However, Camel surged in popularity with the release of their second album, Mirage, in 1974, which featured the use of a flute by Latimer. The band's instrumental concept album, The Snow Goose, based on the Paul Gallico short story, was a critical and commercial success in 1975, leading to a sellout performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

The band's original lineup released their final album together, Moonmadness, in 1976, before Doug Ferguson left and was replaced by Richard Sinclair. Camel continued to release albums throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, with Bardens and Sinclair departing after Rain Dances in 1977.

Despite lineup changes and the disbandment in 1981 due to alcohol and drug abuse by Ward, Latimer continued on as the sole original member, releasing albums under the Camel name such as The Single Factor (1982) and Stationary Traveller (1984).

Camel has continued to tour, led by Latimer, who has been diagnosed with Myelofibrosis. The band is considered one of the inspirations for neo-progressive rock bands and remains a staple of the progressive rock genre.
